On the hike up to Mason Lake there were many pretty plants on the ground. This one is a patch of Bleeding Hearts. This picture, of Long-tailed Wild Ginger, was the cover of the Mother's Day cards that Anna and I made. The first part of the hike was on a wide "highway" amidst many young trees.

On the side of the path was a beautiful waterfall. It went through a culvert under the path and out the other side. A closer shot of the waterfall. We could see glimpses of the far-away hills and mountains through the cedar trees.

This beautiful stump had a staircase of shelf fungi going up it. Slug! Slowly eating a leaf. At the end of the hike was a very steep trail through an older forest.

It was difficult, so we turned around after a bit and went back. That turns out to have been the right decision, as according to the book, the hike got even harder later. This is the transition out of the older forest into the younger forest.
