I learned to enjoy Scottish Country Dance while I was studying at Swarthmore College. A social dance form, SCD is popular around the world and draws people of all ages. The Swarthmore College Bulletin did a story on folk dancing at Swarthmore in March 2003. In my ill-spent youth, I also wrote two dances: The Spinster and The Polygamous Reel. Both have an odd number of men and women because, as all Scottish dancers know, you never have the right number of people to do a dance.
